Destination Wedding at Fattoria del Colle in Tuscany
Destination Wedding at the
Agriturismo Fattoria Del Colle, Trequanda, Siena
This incredible Destination Wedding inTuscany was my first wedding of 2024, and oh my God, it will be so difficult to top it this year! It’s definitely one of my best weddings yet, I don’t know whether it was the fact that it was a wedding in Italy, or that Roosa & Sameli were so chill and made us feel so welcome, or maybe the stunning Tuscany sunset wedding photoshoot we did, or the wild wedding party they had at the end, but bottom line is, I loved it and it is probably my favourite wedding so far!
How I got to shoot this beautiful destination wedding in Italy, is quite interesting as well. Roosa and Sameli, who are both from Finland, found me on instagram after seeing some wedding photographs I took in Poros, Greece. They contacted me saying that they are planning their wedding in Poros and they were looking for a destination wedding photographer. So I thought “great!”, I was thrilled to hear they wanted to work with me, however, after sending them the offer for the wedding…silence. Now, a lot of clients do this and I am used to it, so I didn’t think much of it, I just thought it would’ve been great going back to Greece for a wedding. A while later, they came back to me saying that they are still interested in working with me but dropped Greece altogether, as they couldn’t find a suitable wedding venue in Poros so they were now looking at Italy or Portugal. Which is when I suggested they look at Tuscany, as it’s gorgeous. After that, silence again, at which point I thought, I don’t see this happening and photographing a wedding in Tuscany would probably be too good to be true anyway.
Then a couple of months later, around the end of December 2023, came THE message! They found a lovely wedding venue in Tuscany and they were hoping I was still available to shoot their wedding. I melted! It was on! From then on, it was smooth sailing, we signed the contract, booked the flights and the rest is history. The 2024 season started off brilliantly!
Destination Wedding Photographer in Siena, Tuscany
The day started with the boys getting ready. Sameli was helped by one of his brothers. I started documenting them getting ready in their apartment, then we headed outside on the terrace where they had an ice cold brew. After taking some documentary wedding photographs, I moved over to the ladies suite.
When I got to the girls apartment, I was stunned by how gorgeous Roosa looked, she was absolutely perfect, so gracious and elegant. She was there with her bridesmaids, Enni & Aram, who helped her out with the finishing touches. And by that I mean Enni helped her out with the finishing touches, while Aram was helping herself to a glass of fizz, starting the party early! Oh and what a party it was! But more on that later…
Beautiful Outdoor Wedding Ceremony in Tuscany
The outdoor wedding ceremony, which took place on the west facing terrace at the Agriturismo Fattoria del Colle, overlooking this amazing Tuscan landscape, with beautiful rolling hills, was officiated by another one of Sameli’s brothers and it was very emotional for a lot of people present. Rosa was walked down the aisle by her dad before proceeding with hers and Sameli’s wedding vows. It was beautiful.
It was a bit overcast, which gave us amazing lighting and we were so lucky to be able to have the ceremony outside on the terrace, as the weather forecast looked pretty bad for the entire week leading up to the wedding, with a storm that was supposed to hit right around the time of the ceremony. Luckily however, we only got a few drops of rain around 30 minutes before the ceremony, after which the sky looked to be clearing up and we could carry on as scheduled.
Wedding Photoshoot at Fattoria del Colle,
Trequanda, Tuscany
Right after the ceremony, we did a beautiful wedding photoshoot on the premises of the venue. Roosa and Sameli were a joy to work with and the photos turned out amazing. The location was great as well which helped a lot, honestly Fattoria del Colle is a dream venue for any destination wedding photographer in Italy.
Sunset wedding photoshoot in Tuscany
As soon as I booked this destination wedding in Tuscany, I knew I was going to do a sunset wedding photoshoot, because it’s Tuscany, right? A place which is so well known for it’s incredible sunsets, with that silky golden light engulfing the entire landscape and the seemingly infinite hills rolling in every direction.
Well in our case, the weather had other plans and we were honestly lucky to get the weather that we did on the day, keeping in mind what the forecast looked like in the week leading up to the wedding. The sky looked to be clearing up a bit after the ceremony, but not enough to get that dream like sunset and that golden light I desperately wanted, so there was a point I thought, we’re not going to do the photoshoot at all. However, I did notice at one point that there was a bit of clearance between the horizon and the lowest clouds and I just thought I’d wait it out, see if the sun will come out from behind the clouds as it gets lower in the sky. And thankfully it did, just for a bit, but enough to get some of those amazing sunset photos. The dark clouds added a lot of texture in the sky as well, which I really liked.
Documentary wedding photographer in Tuscany
After this amazing sunset wedding photoshoot, Rosa and Sameli along with their guests went inside for the dinner and speeches.
They were served dinner and of course, a really nice selection of wines. After dinner there were a few speeches, by Sameli’s brother and his dad, as well as Enni, Roosa’s maid of honour. Together, they managed to trigger lots of laughter as well as quite a few tears. As a documentary wedding photographer, during speeches, I am always on the lookout for those beautiful and emotional moments, as they make for some pretty powerful images.
Wedding Party at Agriturismo Fattoria del Colle, Siena
Later in the evening, Rosa and Sameli had their first dance as a married couple, a beautifully executed dance, which preceded an absolutely WILD wedding party and one of the best I’ve seen so far! The Finns can absolutely party! There was so much dancing and at the life of the party, besides Rosa and Sameli of course, was undoubtedly Aram, the maid of honour, who not only danced her ass off for the whole night, but also made sure everyone else was doing the same! This amazing wedding party at Fattoria del Colle was one of the best I’ve seen as a destination wedding photographer in Italy.
